Happy New Year

Welcome back to pupils, staff and our St. Andrew's community.
We hope you had a lovely break with family and friends.

The Spring term is always an exciting term for us at school as we really start to see children making progress in different areas, both academically and socially. Understanding of knowledge begins to deepen and as we move up the school, an increasing level of maturity in and out of the classroom is seen.
Our staff continue to support the needs of all children through quality first teaching, additional provision for those who require more support, as well as helping children to build their independence and resilience when dealing with friendships.

Thank you to all our parents for showing great support to staff across the school. It is really appreciated.

We hope to have the Ofsted Report from our inspection sent to us in the next week. This will then be sent out to all parents and uploaded to our website.

Mrs Statham - Head of School

New road markings outside the school

Last term, a few parents along with Mrs Statham contacted the Council regarding improving the safety outside the school along Churchbury Lane. As you may be aware, many of the road markings were faded and almost impossible to see. After contacting Councillor Mike Rye, one of our governors, we have had some success! Newly painted speed signs on the road and newly painted zig-zag markings outside the school gates. We have also spotted Parking Enforcement Officers present in the mornings, which is encouraging to see.

Help us to keep ALL children safe

We are pleased with the Council's efforts to help make our mornings safer for parents and children around our main gate. However, as a school community we can and need to do better.  Here are some polite reminders for parents:

Please DO NOT park on the yellow zig zag lines

Please DO NOT park on the double yellow lines on the corner of Heaths Close and Graeme Road.

Reduce your speed to 20mph

And finally, if you need to use your car to drop off, arrive early and find a safe and legal place to park. Please do not argue with a member of staff if they ask you to move your car from these areas.

Thank you for your support to keep our children and their parents safe.

What's been happening in school?

All parents will have received the Curriculum Letters for the first half term. These letters provide overviews of the learning, as well as enrichment opportunities planned alongside the curriculum.

Reception classes will be walking to Enfield Town Library, Year 1 will be visiting the Synagogue at Oakwood, Year 3 will be going to the Natural History Museum and Year 5 children will be off to the British Museum.

Lots of music enrichment is taking place too, with Year 3 children starting recorder lessons and Year 1 children taking part in their weekly Songsack sessions. Both of these programmes will lead to a performance at the end of the Spring term.

In Year 1, the children have been learning about some of the artefacts on show for their new RE unit about Judaism. Also, some of our Year 1 children have been learning how to tell the time and sequence a story, based on the wonderful book 'Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann.

In Year 2, the children took their learning outside to work in groups on their spellings. What a great idea!

In Year 3, the children have been acting out scenarios in RE. This week was all about keeping and breaking promises. In Year 4 science lessons, the children have been investigating states of matter, exploring ice and measuring the temperature of ice at its melting point.
