OPEN AFTERNOON FOR PARENTS

FRIDAY 28th MARCH at 3.30pm

On Friday 28th, we look forward to inviting parents to have a look around the school, to visit different classrooms and to see our wonderful work on display around the corridors. Your child will be able to show you a small example of the work being done in their own class, as well as other areas of the school. This is a great opportunity to visit the classrooms which your child will be moving to in September. We look forward to seeing you all. 

Sporting Achievements 

Year 3 and 4 Football Tournament

This week, our Year 3 and 4 boys' football team took part in the Enfield Schools tournament at Edmonton County School.  Our boys played with confidence in every game and came up against some very strong teams. Many goals were scored and they won 4 out of the 5 games. Unfortunately, Grange Park pipped them by a game. Well done to all our boys and thank you to Mr Cook for organising the event. 

Hi 5 Netball league

Our  netball team have played every week in the Enfield Hi5 league, held at Enfield County School. Having lost matches last week,  a determined mindset  was needed from every player for their final set of games. They lost one game and won two. Overall, we came 4th in the league. Great team work and a good effort from all the players. A special mention to our parents and supporters who, by all accounts, have been the largest in number and the noisiest! It was so lovely to see children and parents coming to support the team, even when their own child was not playing.  Well done to all the players and to Ms Ferguson and Miss Chick for leading the Hi 5 club.

Debating Team win the semi-final

On Wednesday evening, our Debating Team took part in their first ever live debate at Chace Community School. Organised by the Enfield Town Schools Partnership, the debate for our team centred around the use of smartphones for children under 16s. Over the weeks, out Debating Club has come together, to look at the arguments for and against this topic, bringing their own statistics and research, to make their arguments clear and succinct.

In the last two weeks, we could only take 5 pupils to the competition. These pupils - Layla, Freya, Isabella, Sophie and Elaine worked so hard at home with their parents and at school, to practise and improve their skills in researching, presenting, speaking and listening. This commitment shone through on the night and they thoroughly deserved to come first. 

On to the final in 10 days. Good luck to them all and a huge thank you to Mrs Anderson and Mrs Statham for their time and effort with all of the debaters. 

Reception children head off to Crews Hill

This week, our youngest children set off to the garden centre in Crews Hill. They completed a scavenger hunt around the garden centre and enjoyed a drink and a biscuit, before heading back to school.

Their behaviour was exemplary and not even a grumpy bus driver could take away the excitement of the trips. Many thanks to the staff for organising the trips and to our wonderful parents for supporting the children.

Singing Club

Our Singing Club took part in the Enfield Music Singing Partnership at One Degree Academy. The children sang enthusiastically and enjoyed singing with other schools. Thank you to Miss Jones and Mrs Meekin for running the club. 

Year 5 boys meet up with their Y10 Mentors

Throughout the year, a group of Year 5 boys meet with Y10 Enfield Grammar students, to engage in a reading project. Every boy is paired with a Y10 student and they work together on reading and discussing a short novel. They take part in quizzes, have discussions and develop great speaking skills. Such a great opportunity for our boys to meet older students and take part in reading for pleasure. 

A Moment of Calm for Year 6

On Friday morning,  our Year 6 pupils took part in a Mindfulness assembly, organised by Success Club. We put our school forward for our pupils to engage with this programme, which specialises in personal development and well-being. The children were able to learn and practise self-soothing techniques, along with some calm time to learn how to better manage emotions. All children were given a booklet for them to use leading up to the SATs and beyond and they will taking A Moment of Calm every day, right up to the tests.

Supporting Families in Enfield

A few weeks ago, parents were emailed a series of workshops organised by My Young Mind Enfield (MYME). These workshops are free to all parents who may be struggling with managing their child's behaviours at home, managing emotions or  anxiety. One of the courses is shown below. The workshops are online and are a really informative way to support parents. Please see the email sent out for details on how to sign up.
