Debating Team come runners up in the Final

This week, our Debating Team competed in the final of the Enfield Town Schools Partnership event, hosted by Chace Community School. The topic for the debate was 'THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT CINEMAS SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN' and they were on the Against side. 

Having only 10 days to do research, prepare notes and practise their speeches, the girls proved what superstars they are. All of them spoke with conviction, clarity and knowledge in a hall full with other schools, as well as four judges. Out of 6 schools competing in the final, St. Andrew's came runners up and we are delighted. 

Freya and Elaine told us that they had learned so much about public speaking and about how a debate is actually run. They enjoyed feeling important on the big stage, too! Well done to all the girls and a huge thank you to Mrs Anderson for coaching them. 

Easter Egg hunt and chocolate bunnies

This week, our children took part in class egg hunts around the school grounds. The staff hid cubes for the children to find, in exchange for an egg. Many thanks to the PTA for providing the treats. 

We would also like to say a big thank you to our mystery parent who bought chocolate bunnies for the whole school! This was such a generous thing to do and we are so very thankful.  

Year 2 visit Forty Hall

This week, our Year 2 children visited Forty Hall to support their understanding about Sir Nicholas Rainton. Sir Nicholas lived at Forty Hall in the 1600s and was the first Mayor of London. The children spent some time inside the beautiful house, looking in rooms which showed what life would have been like all those years ago. A walk around the stunning walled garden and the grounds, completed a wonderful day out for the children. Thanks to the Year 2 staff for arranging the visit.

5B lead the Easter Service 

This week, 5B led our Easter Service at St. Andrew's Church. The children told the story of Easter, interspersed with a more contemporary sprinkling of Easter fun. The children clearly enjoyed the opportunity to present in front of parents and children and it was lovely to end the week with a great performance. Thank you to Ms Ferguson and Mrs Dilieto for helping the children with the service. 

Year 1 visit Holtwhites Bakery

Our Year 1 and Year 2 classes visited Holtwhites Bakery to buy a hot cross bun. This was part of their learning about Easter in RE. They were very lucky with the weather; a glorious spring day and a tasty treat to take back to school. 

St. Andrew's gain Excellence Award for Reading 

We are delighted to announce that St. Andrew 's School has achieved the Enfield Reading for Pleasure Excellence Award.

We already know how books, reading and literature are at the heart of our school; we just had to prove it! 

Mrs Meekin and Mrs Statham met with one of the Enfield  Local Authority advisers this week, to go through their reading audit. The adviser also spoke to children from all year groups, to hear what they had to say about their own reading habits. The report, which came out today, stated;

"It is evident that the school is committed to developing lifelong readers through a well-planned and embedded approach. The strategic direction is clear, ensuring that reading for pleasure is not only encouraged but also sustained through effective systems and school-wide engagement. Pupils' voices reinforce the success of this approach, as their enthusiasm, confidence, and appreciation for reading were evident throughout my visit. Congratulations on achieving the Enfield Reading for Pleasure Excellence Mark. St Andrew’s School's reading culture is truly inspiring!"

Congratulations to our teachers, whose love of literature shines through, to our parents, who can see the pleasure that reading brings at school and at home and finally to our wonderful pupils, whose enthusiasm and passion for reading and books led us to applying for this award in the first place. You are all amazing!
