Information to parents about our Maintenance Fund

When every child starts at St. Andrew's School, parents are informed about our maintenance fund payment. The school asks every family to give a voluntary contribution of £35 per year for the upkeep of our buildings and grounds.

The school DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY FUNDS FROM THE LOCAL AUTHORITY for the upkeep and maintenance of ageing buildings, so your payments are really important. Projects in the pipeline including replacing broken gates, a new effective CCTV system and pointing, to prevent damp.

This fund also helps if we were to have a large item break,
such as a boiler or new roof, as the replacement will be funded by
the LDBS (London Diocesan Board for Schools).

None of this is glamorous, but it is all important.

A big thank you to everyone who has made the annual maintenance payment so far. We have collected nearly £9,500 and will be able to claim an additional £2,000+ in Gift Aid from HMRC.

As you already know, school finances are extremely stretched and every payment counts. If you are ready to make your payment this term, we would really appreciate a contribution via ParentPay. Thank you.

Our Quiet Garden is almost ready - Shhh!

Since we began this project on one weekend in March, a trusted team of mums, dads, grandparents, staff and family members, has spent 5 weekends at school, transforming the old Prayer Garden into something quite beautiful.

The rotting fences, overgrown shrubs and broken paving have been gradually removed, along with tonnes and tonnes of soil! We have had skips, wheelbarrows, and vans to help with the clearing and it really has been a team effort.

Last weekend involved trips to the garden centres in Crews Hill, where nearly
40 bags of stones were collected, along with 15 bags of soil, two large troughs
and 13 plants, all paid for from the funds raised by the PTA.
Added to this were two benches, which needed assembling.

We have the last corner to finish.  We hope to have the garden ready for parents to see on Sports Day on 19th June. The garden will be a quiet area for children, who need a bit of time to calm, to regulate or to reflect.
Further plans will include some wind chimes and a water feature.

PTA Summer Circus Event

The PTA has been busy organising ticket sales for the Circus event on Sunday 6th July. There are still tickets available, so please check out the posters around the school for more information.

There are plans for drinks, food, a BBQ and other stalls to be organised around the school field. However, the PTA needs more offers of help to run these stalls.

PLEASE OFFER TO HELP THE PTA

On the day, the PTA will need parents to help with tasks such as admission queues at the circus door, to take a turn helping with the BBQ, run the cake stall and help to set up and clear away. At the moment, only a few parents have offered to help. We have over 400 children at St. Andrew's, which means
there must be a lot of parents who could offer a couple of hours
of their time on this day.

Without the help, these events will begin to reduce. If the events do not go ahead, the school will not receive the much-needed funds to support our major projects, as well as wonderful treats for our children.

We are a community school and we need our community to help, even for a short period of time. Please contact Selin at the PTA as soon as you can.
It will really be appreciated.

Science lessons around the school

Year 6 spent their final science unit investigating density and buoyancy in their lessons, using a range of materials and shapes. Meanwhile, in Year 4, the children were challenged with using a variety of components to make a circuit to light up a bulb.

Changes to using smartphones on the school premises from September 2025

Following on from the very informative parent meeting last week, presented by Nova Eden, all Enfield schools have made a decision to ban the use of smartphones from September 2025. Children in Year 5 and 6, who might normally bring a smartphone to school, for when travelling home,
will only be allowed a 'brick' phone.
More details will follow about this, leading up to the end of term.

In addition to this, we ask that parents, relatives, carers and older siblings put their phones away at the gate whilst on school premises,
when they drop off and pick up their children.
Reminders will be sent out about this before the new term starts again.

Year 1 take their learning onto the field

This week, the Year 1 children investigated whether a modern-day plane could fit on our school field. They estimated this using their arm span. The result -  they discovered that the field is not big enough for a modern plane, though a very early model could have fitted in the Year 1 garden!

Well done to Year 1 and Year 4 pupils this week

This week, our Year 1 pupils took part in the government Phonics Screening tests. Mrs Meekin and Mrs Anderson were very proud of all the children, who have been working consistently hard throughout the year to support every child with learning to read. Lots and lots of praise, practice and more practice at home and school has resulted in our children doing their very best.

We would also like to congratulate our Year 4 children, who have been working tirelessly to improve their knowledge of times tables. The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a timed statutory test, which the children complete on a device.
A huge thank you to Mrs Dempsey and Mr Cook for ensuring all children felt confident and ready for the test. Well done to everyone.
